Privacy Policy

This policy applies to the public ANOMALY Directory website at anomaly.directory. The archive can currently be browsed without creating a user account. This notice does not apply to third-party websites, books, archives, or services linked from ANOMALY.

Like most web services, ANOMALY's hosting and application infrastructure may process technical request information needed to deliver and secure the site. This can include IP address, date and time, requested URL, referrer, browser and device information, response status, and diagnostic or security events.

When you use archive search or filtering features, the search terms, selected filters, and related request metadata may be transmitted to the application so results can be returned. Operational logs may contain request information when needed for reliability, abuse prevention, troubleshooting, or security.

The current site code loads Google Analytics using measurement ID G-CG578W5Z52. Google Analytics is used to understand aggregate traffic, page usage, referral patterns, and how visitors navigate the archive. Google may receive technical and usage information through its analytics scripts and related browser storage according to Google's own terms and privacy documentation.

The current site code also loads Microsoft Clarity. Clarity provides aggregate usage and interaction analytics that can help identify navigation problems, layout issues, and other usability patterns. Microsoft may process device, browser, interaction, network, and related usage data under its own privacy terms and service configuration.

Technical and usage data may be processed for the following purposes:

• delivering pages, search results, media, and API responses;
• measuring aggregate traffic and understanding archive usage;
• maintaining security, preventing abuse, and diagnosing failures;
• improving navigation, performance, accessibility, and content organization; and
• maintaining evidence of technical incidents where reasonably necessary.

Analytics and site functionality may use cookies, local storage, or similar browser technologies. Third-party analytics providers can set or read identifiers according to their configurations and policies. Browser controls, privacy extensions, and provider opt-out mechanisms may allow you to limit some of this processing, although blocking essential browser functionality can affect site behavior.

Infrastructure and security logs should be retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for operations, security, debugging, and legal obligations. Analytics retention is governed by the settings configured for the relevant Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity properties and by those providers' applicable policies. ANOMALY does not state a fixed analytics retention period here because the repository does not currently expose those account-level settings.

Technical data may be processed by hosting, infrastructure, analytics, and security providers acting as service providers or independent controllers depending on the service and circumstances. Data may therefore be processed outside your country of residence subject to the safeguards and rules applicable to the provider and transfer.

Depending on the law that applies to you and the processing, you may have rights to request information about personal data, correction, deletion, restriction or objection, data portability, or review of certain automated decisions. Rights are not absolute and can be limited by legal exceptions, competing rights, archival obligations, or the need to establish or defend legal claims.

Swiss guidance on transparency and the duty to provide information is available from the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).

Requests concerning names, allegations, witness information, or other personal data appearing inside archive records will be assessed in context. Historical or source-derived information may sometimes be retained where there is a legitimate archival, research, journalistic, evidentiary, or legal basis, while unnecessary or disproportionate personal details may be corrected, restricted, or removed.

This policy should be updated whenever ANOMALY adds accounts, forms, newsletters, user submissions, advertising, payment services, new analytics tools, or materially different data processing. Material changes will be reflected by the update date on this page.
