Hastings describes a declassified Project Blue Book file in which an egg-shaped object was initially tracked on radar, descended to roughly 20–30 feet above the ground, moved toward the nuclear Weapons Storage Area and related facilities, hovered, then departed rapidly. Blue Book’s private-aircraft explanation was later rejected by the two air-traffic controllers interviewed by James McDonald.
